DV Wilson Warming Center: Lebanon
Due to the upcoming forecast of below-freezing temperatures, a warming center is being established in Wilson County to provide emergency warmth, shelter, and necessary support to individuals and families. Wilson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and local community partners will be involved in coordinating logistics, personnel, and facility needs.
Opening the center will require many volunteers.
As a Warming Center Volunteer, you may be responsible for:
- Sitting down with someone who may be feeling isolated or marginalized and simply listening to their story,
- Sharing a warm cup of coffee and offering a moment of comfort and companionship,
- Building meaningful connections and bridging the gap between different walks of life,
- Offering a listening ear and a supportive presence to someone who may need it most,
- Overseeing the daily operations,
- Managing the staff and volunteers on-site,
- Coordinating resources for guests,
- Assisting guests with bedding,
- Serving food to guests,
- Assisting with sanitation (cleaning and disinfecting),
- Provide support to those needing help,
- Assisting the WEMA and law enforcement staff if medical issues arise.
Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather, our emergency warming center hours may vary. We ask volunteers to remain patient and flexible as we navigate these changes. If a shift you signed up for is no longer needed, we will notify you as soon as possible. Your willingness to help during this uncertain time is truly appreciated!
