Opportunity Details

DV Wilson County Cooling Center

A cooling center has been established in Wilson County to provide temporary shelter and essential support for up to 60 individuals during Excessive Heat Warnings. Wilson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and local community partners will coordinate logistics, staffing, and facility needs.

To protect the health and safety of individuals at risk from extreme heat, the center will open when Wilson County is under a declared Excessive Heat Warning. Opening and operating the center will require the support of many volunteers.

The center will typically operate during peak heat hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. However, because weather conditions can change unexpectedly, operating hours and volunteer needs may vary. We ask volunteers to remain patient and flexible as schedules are adjusted. If a shift you selected is no longer needed, we will notify you as soon as possible.

Your willingness to serve during these uncertain conditions is sincerely appreciated!

As a Cooling Center Volunteer, your responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming and checking in guests

  • Directing guests to the air-conditioned space

  • Distributing water and snacks as needed

  • Performing general cleaning to maintain a safe and welcoming environment

  • Taking initiative and assisting with other needs to help the center operate smoothly

The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
