Opportunity Details

DV Wilson Cooling Center Food Team

A cooling center has been established in Wilson County to provide temporary shelter and necessary support for individuals during Excessive Heat Warnings. Wilson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and local community partners will be involved in coordinating logistics, personnel, and facility needs. In order to protect the health and safety of at-risk individuals, the center will be open if/when the County is under a declared Excessive Heat Warning.

Opening the center will require many volunteers

These centers will operate during peak hours, typically from 10:00-7:00 PM, but due to the unpredictable nature of weather events, our cooling shelter hours may vary. We ask volunteers to remain patient and flexible as we navigate these changes. If a shift you signed up for is no longer needed, we will notify you as soon as possible. Your willingness to help during this uncertain time is truly appreciated!

As a Cooling Center Food Team Volunteer, you may be responsible for:

  • Providing a meal for 20-30  people (numbers vary, we will confirm closer to your shift)
  • Serving the meal to guests at the center
  • Giving out water and snacks (if needed).
  • Staying flexible if weather changes and the shelter is not needed. And staying flexible is numbers increase. Volunteer Network will communicate to let you know of any changes.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
